for the Lord disciplines who he loves. Now, [he] chastises all who he receives as sons (Hebrews 12:6)
Our heavenly Father father disciplines the one he loves, as a father does the son in whom he delights (Proverbs 3:11-12). If you are a child of God you have testimony of adoption as his own, he chose you in love, he pours out his love into your hearts through the Holy Spirit. God chose you in love to be his own, children, and he desires that we share in his divine nature so he disciplines us for this purpose.
... the one blessing us in all spiritual blessings in the heavenly places in Christ (Ephesians 1:3-8).We sit in the heavenly places with Christ, we are blessed beyond measure.* God delights in you because he blessed you with favor "to the praise of his glorious grace which he highly favored you in the Beloved" (Ephesians 1:3-6). The word Favored (χάρισμα, is from the root word χάρις "charis" (grace) and adds -μα (which denotes effect or result of an action). That he chose you in grace has the result of God's favor or delight in you. "Favor" is a synonym for "delight" as is joy and pleasure.
endure your trials as divine discipline, God is bringing you near as a son, for what son whom a father doesn't discipline? (Hebrews 12:7-8)
If we are left without discipline then we would be illegitimate sons, as all sons share in the discipline of their father. I was told if I continued to do a certain thing he would continue to punish me. It was a time of growth for me. It awoke me to the realization I was his child and that what I was doing was displeasing to him. And of course I did not want to be punished for doing it.
Endure as a son, at the time punishment is painful and unpleasant to us but it is according to the pleasure of his will and that which he purposed in Christ, to be conformed to his image. Why he chose us as sons, to be his own and like him. Be trained in discipline as it yields peaceful fruit of righteousness to the ones trained through it (Hebrews 12:12). Make straight your path, do what is right and pleasing to your Father so what needs healing will be made whole (Hebrews 12:12). Your Father loves you.
